Make sure that you have at least a 2nd generation iPad. The first one does not do mirroring.
Wired - To do it from a cable connection it is quite easy. You will need to purchace the VGA adapter cable ($29) from Apple (or any vendor that carries it) and just hook the iPad to one end and then the other end to the VGA cable that goes to the projector.
Click here to see it on the Apple Store
Wirelessly - This can be done but you are going to need a few more parts
Wifi has to be present in your classroom and you will need to be able to connect the Apple TV and iPad to the same network. (See your IT department)
You will need an HDMI cable to connect the Apple TV to the projector or converter (see below).
Apple TV - The iPad can Airplay to this device. It only has an HDMI out so if your projector has an HDMI it is a simple matter of hooking the Apple TV to the projector. You would then have to join the Apple TV to the wireless network (or use the Ethernet cable). Once you have done that, connect the iPad to the same network as the Apple TV and double push the home button. Once you do that, you will see the recent apps bar appear, swipe left to right until you come to the play controls and you should see a rectangle with an upward pointing triangle icon, click on that and then choose Apple TV and turn mirroring on. If you do not see the icon, then it may be because your apple TV is off or not on the same network. For more info, click here.
If your Projector does not have HDMI in, but just VGA - All is not lost. You will need to purchase an HDMI converter that goes between the Apple TV and the Projector. Here is a link to what I have used from Amazon. At the time of this post it is around $40. Simply hook up the Apple TV to the converter using the HDMI Cable and then the converter to the projector. Then follow the instructions above on how to connect the iPad to the Apple TV.
